Always check the local animal control shelter for at least two weeks after your dog goes missing. Also, leave a picture of your lost dog at the shelter. This is why microchipping, an ID and an animal license are so important!<\/p>\n

Dear Editor,
 
I am writing to make all your readers, especially those with pets, aware of a new proposal being considered in Sacramento.  By now everyone is familiar with the deficits the state will be facing in the next few years.  To bring in new income to the state coffers, Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed placing sales tax on veterinary services.  No other health profession will be taxed; he has singled out pet owners for this sales tax.  For some people their pet is their only companion and a tax on their best friend’s care could limit the care that pet receives.  It is an unfair tax and hurts all the people that love their pets and treat them as family.<\/p>\n

I think taxing such a basic need as a pet’s health care will create a financial hardship for many individuals and families in these challenging economic times, and put the pet owner in a difficult position when presented with the extra cost the tax will impose.  The added expense will result in a lower quality of care and more euthanasia of beloved pets for those owners already on a limited budget.
