If the quake sent you scrambling for your disaster-preparedness list, make sure that your pet is provided for on it. The following is a list and several Web sites to help you.<br \/>Emergency Evacuation Checklist&mdash;Plan Ahead!<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1) Food<\/span>&mdash;two-week supply (don&#8217;t forget a manual can opener)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">2) Water<\/span>&mdash;two-week supply<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">3) Identification<\/span>&mdash;Keep a collar and an ID tag on each animal; microchipping is best because it&#8217;s permanent. KEEP A CURRENT PHOTO OF EACH ANIMAL WITH YOU IN THE PICTURE TO PROVE OWNERSHIP.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">4) Medications\/First Aid<\/span>&mdash;Prepare a basic first-aid kit. Prepare a collar with medical conditions and needs somewhere on it. For cats, remember the litter box and litter. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">6) Specific Information<\/span>&mdash;Any behavioral problems or issues; if the pet is friendly to children, cats or dogs; feeding schedule; and vet&rsquo;s phone number.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">7) Toys<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">8) Housing<\/span>&mdash;Find out now what hotels and motels allow pets in the event of a disaster. The Automobile Association of America (AAA) publishes a book titled Traveling with Your Pet &#8211; The AAA PetBook, available for sale at their offices.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">9) Travel<\/span>&mdash;Keep in mind that major highways may be closed. Have a map of your area ready. Make sure your car does not get low on gasoline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsus.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Humane Society of the United States<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scart.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Surf City Animal Response Team<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uan.org\/ears\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">United Animal Nations<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avma.org\/disaster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Veterinary Medical Association<\/a> for sources.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaa-calif.com\/APPS\/TRAVEL\/TIPS\/RESOURCEDETAIL.ASPX?CAT=FAMILY%20TRAVEL&amp;OID=62322:62455:62327:62324:62454:62319:129755:129756:129757:130451:#AABA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAA<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Pets are family too! Don&#8217;t evacuate without your pets, and prepare for emergencies.
