The Long Beach Central Area Association and the 2nd City Council Gallery + Performance Space (2cc) are proud to present Ron Wilkins “Journey to Black Mexico: a photographic discourse.” <\/span>The exhibition features beautiful portraits of Mexicans with African ancestry. The exhibition runs January 26 – February 28, 2008. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The artist’s reception is Saturday, February 2nd from 7 – 9pm and features the music of Richard Atkins, violinist. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n On Saturday, February 9th from 2 -4pm Ron Wilkins, Professor, Africana Studies at California State University Dominguez Hills, will discuss his exhibition and present the lecture, “Creating and Sustaining Mutually-Supportive Relationships Between Black and Brown Students.”<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Professor Wilkins has actively promoted and worked towards understanding and equality among peoples for much of his life. <\/span>He views this as increasingly more important with the dramatic rise in tension and violence between African American and Mexican peoples in Southern California. <\/span>Ron Wilkins’ work explores the often unknown shared history as well as offering fascinating examples of historical and contemporary alliances between African Americans and Mexicans.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The gallery, reception and lecture are free and open to the public.
