Zaftig pirate wenches showed off their pulchritude and made merry with the buccaneers.<\/p>\n<p>The day was filled with sword fights, cannon blasts, musket battles and troupes of musicians. (But they did not play pirated music.)<\/p>\n<p>And in keeping with pirate lore there was the requisite pirate bouncy house and face-painting booth for the wee scalawags.<\/p>\n<p>This is the 12th anniversary of the event. Crowds of more than 50,000 are expected to take over the island this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, pirate actors are famous for the \u201caaarghs\u201d and also for their corny jokes.<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of corny\u2026.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How much did the pirate charge for corn at his roadside stand? &#8230; A buck-an-ear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We asked a few of Saturday\u2019s pirates for their favorite pirate joke:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why couldn\u2019t the pirates play poker on their ship? &#8230; The Captain was standing on the deck.<\/li>\n<li>Why didn\u2019t the pirate take a shower before walking the plank? &#8230; He knew he would wash up on shore.<\/li>\n<li>What happened when Red Beard fell into the great blue sea? &#8230; He got marooned.<\/li>\n<li>What does a pirate with heartburn say? &#8230; &#8220;Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of Tums.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more bad pirate jokes, you can head to Shoreline Village on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10000000336\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10000000336\" style=\"width: 934px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-10000000336\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/0629_PIRATE_14-934x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"934\" height=\"1024\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10000000336\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mermaid Claudia Torres and pirate Steve Flores were among the thousands who attended the 12th annual Pirate Invasion of Long Beach at Shoreline Aquatic Park on Saturday, June 29, 2019.
