The weird, wonderful and surreally out-of-whack Twisted at the Pike event is barreling back to South Pine Avenue for its fourth year at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Pike Outlets.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s version follows last summer\u2019s hiatus when the Summer And Music bash was replaced by Punk Rock Prom.<\/p>\n
Now, Twisted is borrowing some of the Prom\u2019s attitude with a full slate of live music and adding to its carnival-centric theme, in an apt setting next to the newly LED-decorated Ferris wheel, with an enjoyably bizarre cast of performers.<\/p>\n
While the event, organized by Ashley Hectus along with the rest of the SAM crew (and promo\u2019ed once again with a spectacular poster designed by Johnny Jones) with Downtown Long Beach Alliance, contains a host of carny artists, including fire-eaters, stilt-walkers, magicians and tribal fire belly dancers, the musical element is the big draw to the free, all-ages event.<\/p>\n
Headlining on the Twisted stage will be L.A. Witch, a dark and bluesy female rock\/punk trio that can go fairly old-school with sounds reminiscent of the Doors and Them.<\/p>\n
The musical undercard includes the synth-drenched danceable beats of Fartbarf, the psycho-punk garage band-y Cosmonauts and the fun-loving high-energy rock-punkers Shave.<\/p>\n
So, you\u2019re urged to wear your punk-rock prom garb to this hybrid affair, while taking a spin on the Ferris wheel while dining extravagantly on such carnival fare as kettle corn and, if there\u2019s a just and loving God, cotton candy, all washed down with a pint from Beachwood Brewery.<\/p>\n
