{"id":687,"date":"2018-06-28T14:35:33","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T21:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/?p=68340"},"modified":"2018-06-28T14:35:33","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T21:35:33","slug":"celebrating-pet-food-expresss-200th-cat-adoption-and-suggestions-for-a-head-start-on-300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/pets\/celebrating-pet-food-expresss-200th-cat-adoption-and-suggestions-for-a-head-start-on-300","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Pet Food Express\u2019s 200th cat adoption (and suggestions for a head start on 300)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many pet-related stores involve themselves with the pet community either globally or locally. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.petfoodexpress.com\/stores\/detail\/long-beach\/\">Pet Food Express<\/a>, a high-quality pet-supply chain with stores throughout California, donates funds to animal shelters (including our own at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.longbeach.gov\/acs\">Long Beach Animal Care Services<\/a>), rescues and police K-9 departments, and they host weekly pet-adoption events as well from local rescues and shelters. Eleven of the stores have their own cat-adoption center, and lucky us\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.petfoodexpress.com\/stores\/detail\/long-beach\/\">the Long Beach store<\/a>\u00a0at 4220 Long Beach Blvd. has one!<\/p>\n<p>The Long Beach store opened in March, 2016; on Sunday, June 24, the pet food store celebrated its 200th adoption (that\u2019s an average of 100 cat adoptions a year)! All the cats in the center come from ACS, no matter the age, color or number of legs. They all go home, too!<\/p>\n<p>Long Beach resident Daisy Fernandez adopted number 200, and she\u2019s smitten with the kitten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this year, my dog passed away,\u201d Daisy Fernandez said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve always wanted a cat\u2014a black cat, because of <em>Black Panther <\/em>and because they\u2019re beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daisy\u2019s sister Jackie had noticed a black kitten at the store. The two women went to see him, and Daisy fell instantly in love.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe sounded like a little love machine, purring and purring,\u201d Daisy said.<\/p>\n<p>The kitten\u2019s name was Lemmy because he was found on Lemon Avenue.
