The Hi-lo is proud to partner with POW! WOW! Long Beach to host a special, free talk event with the creator of \u201cBob\u2019s Burgers\u201d and famed cartoonist Jay Howell<\/a>. For those that cannot attend, we will be livestreaming it on our Instagram and Facebook.<\/p>\n

Sitting down with columnist and editor Brian Addison, the pair will discuss not only Howell\u2019s fascinating ascent into the mainstream (including the upcoming “Bob’s Burgers” movie) but explore questions that revolve around how the work of artists is used in business. From dealing with corporations to what it means\u2014or doesn\u2019t mean\u2014when an artist \u201csells out,\u201d this conversation will explore how artists maintain a sense of authenticity in world driven by curated images driven by social media and corporatized marketing.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully, this conversation can let artists and lovers of art alike begin to grasp the steps needed to take one\u2019s art to the next level in terms of exposure and business,\u201d Addison said. \u201cOn the flip side, hopefully it will also inspire artists skeptical of being viewed as a \u2018sell out;\u2019 to let them feel more comfortable using their art as source of income even if they aren\u2019t interested in going mainstream. Mainly, this is for and about artists.\u201d<\/p>\n
