Photo from the <a href=\"http:\/\/artslb.org\/artists\/olga-lah\/\">Artist Registry<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Friday at The Collaborative Gallery, blank walls will meet guests at the opening reception for <em>Flow I Obstruction: process.dialogue.inquiry<\/em>, the second of four Artist Registry shows put on by the Arts Council for Long Beach.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"vsUO7NhZBz\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/art\/meditations-celebrates-new-artist-registry-but-also-marks-renewal-of-a-promising-art-forward-partnership\">MEDITATIONS Celebrates Revamped Artist Registry, Marks Renewal of an Art-Forward Partnership<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;MEDITATIONS Celebrates Revamped Artist Registry, Marks Renewal of an Art-Forward Partnership&#8221; &#8212; the Hi-lo\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/art\/meditations-celebrates-new-artist-registry-but-also-marks-renewal-of-a-promising-art-forward-partnership\/embed\/#?secret=eBs4EszHzT#?secret=vsUO7NhZBz\" data-secret=\"vsUO7NhZBz\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an experiment, curated by the arts council\u2019s Community Arts Program (CAP) committee members Carolyn Schutten and Sayon Syprasoeuth, where artists have been invited to display their creative processes within the gallery this time, giving visitors a chance to see their works unfold throughout the exhibit\u2019s duration, on view through August 2 as they conduct a \u201ccollective inquiry of the intersections between Long Beach waterscapes and human and consumer flows,\u201d according to the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s opening will include a panel discussion with the participating artists and curators. The conversation held on June 8 will lead to activations throughout the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis exhibition honors the artistic process rather than the product, allowing visitors to witness the considerable thinking and exploration that goes into an artist\u2019s final product,\u201d Schutten said in a statement. \u201cArtists are some of the great thinkers of our time, and this exhibition will make the artist process visible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-66736\" src=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/manos1-1080x718-970x644.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nDetail of <\/em>Manos de Oro<em> (2016) by Dulce Soledad Ibarra. Photo from the <a href=\"http:\/\/artslb.org\/artists\/dulce-soledad-ibarra\/\">Artist Registry<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The featured artists include Jennifer Celio, whose abstract and representational mixed-media pieces confront humanity\u2019s dichotomic reverence and destruction for nature, Dulce Soledad Ibarra, who develops narratives exploring guilt, history and trauma and Olga Lah, who creates site-specific installations on existence, transcendence and memory.<\/p>\n<p>More artists readying to display their process include Tiffany Le who tackles themes involving legendary accounts of women and mythical beasts, Anna Beatrice Scott, a performance artist exploring the intersection of dance, digital devices and text and Myriam Gurba, who creates digital and photographic art and is also a prolific writer with an Edmund White Award given to queer writers for outstanding debut fiction, according to the arts council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Collaborative Gallery is both an experimental space and a venue to highlight Long Beach artists registered on the new, user-friendly site,\u201d Syprasoeuth stated. \u201cIn addition to being eligible for future exhibitions, artists are provided an updateable micro-site and the means to add events to the Arts Council calendar.
