{"id":759,"date":"2018-05-21T10:31:29","date_gmt":"2018-05-21T17:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.longbeachize.com\/?p=11010"},"modified":"2018-05-21T10:31:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-21T17:31:29","slug":"after-protest-against-it-dies-down-this-long-beach-taco-bell-will-move-forward-with-serving-beer-alcoholic-slushies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/food\/after-protest-against-it-dies-down-this-long-beach-taco-bell-will-move-forward-with-serving-beer-alcoholic-slushies","title":{"rendered":"After Protest Against It Dies Down in Long Beach, Taco Bell Will Still Try to Move Forward with Serving Beer &#038; Alcoholic Slushies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Love Long Beach and food?\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2rL7U2a\">Click here to scroll through the archives of our foodie updates.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">****<\/p>\n<p><em>Above: Newport Beach&#8217;s Taco Bell Catina, which opened late last year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EQ8ViYIeH04\">combination Pizza Hut &amp; Taco Bell<\/a> located at Broadway and Paloma in Bluff Heights is seeking an upgrade: after launching for the first time in SoCal along the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, Taco Bell wants to take its &#8220;Cantina&#8221; concept\u2014where cleaner, contemporary design meets beer&#8217;n&#8217;fast food\u2014to Long Beach.<\/p>\n<p>But some locals weren&#8217;t having it, initially requesting Long Beach City Council to permit a <a href=\"http:\/\/longbeach.legistar.com\/View.ashx?M=F&amp;ID=6249500&amp;GUID=800327D1-F0A1-40F0-A5AE-C5BE9BCC893C\">protest of the alcohol license<\/a> based on grounds that it is too close to residences, too close to a school, and there&#8217;s an over concentration of alcohol-serving businesses nearby.<\/p>\n<p>However, that request has been formally withdrawn as of this morning. And while that means Taco Bell won&#8217;t be receiving a license since the Council won&#8217;t be viewing the item, it doesn&#8217;t mean they won&#8217;t try to move forward as scheduled, according to company spokesman Rob Poetsch said.<\/p>\n<p>This means that, in the future, Taco Bell could move forward with testing alcohol-centric fast food joints, including its own brand of beer\u2014the Newport location served a special, one-off collaboration with Four Sons Brewing out of Huntington Beach named Beach Bell, for example\u2014and alcoholic slushies dubbed Twisted Freezes.<\/p>\n<p>Beers served on the regular include Lagunitas IPA, Modelo, Pacifico, Coors, and Coors Light, ranked informally from actual beer to alcohol-tinged water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould we open in Long Beach, the location will be a Taco Bell Cantina and will feature a restaurant design, menu and alcoholic beverages similar to our locations in Chicago, Las Vegas, and Newport Beach,\u201d Poetsch said.<\/p>\n<p>Others have opened in San Francisco and Austin as well, with each cantina looking different, &#8220;designed to embrace the surrounding community,&#8221; according to Poetsch.<\/p>\n<p><em>Taco Bell is located at 3125 E Broadway.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s note: this article originally insinuated that Taco Bell was still looking to convert the existing location discussed; this remains unclear given the license submission for that location was withdrawn entirely.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Love Long Beach and food?\u00a0Click here to scroll through the archives of our foodie updates. **** Above: Newport Beach&#8217;s Taco Bell Catina, which opened late last year.
