The Filipino Migrant Center, the Long Beach-based nonprofit, will celebrate its 13-year anniversary with an adobo cook-off night on Oct. 14.<\/p>\n

The event, Kwento Natin: Raise our Voices and Fight for Change, will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and all funds raised will go towards the Filipino Migrant Center’s programming and services. The center helps working-class Filipino families with free legal assistance for immigration, labor, health, and other issues as well as providing training and community support.<\/p>\n

Cook-off contestants will submit their classic or vegetarian\/vegan versions of adobo for judging by Ralph Degala, who competed on the ninth season of the TV series MasterChef.<\/p>\n

In addition to the competition, storytelling and awards will be presented to members of the community, including Nicanor \u201cNikki\u201d Arriola and Nerissa Roque<\/a>, who are survivors of anti-Asian hate crimes.<\/p>\n

Tickets are priced at $50 for general admission, but students, seniors and children can receive discounted rates. Purchase tickets here<\/a> by Oct. 12.<\/p>\n
