{"id":80669,"date":"2023-12-28T07:00:06","date_gmt":"2023-12-28T15:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=80669"},"modified":"2023-12-28T12:04:55","modified_gmt":"2023-12-28T20:04:55","slug":"long-beach-jewish-film-festival-returns-jan-17-to-mark-its-20th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/long-beach-jewish-film-festival-returns-jan-17-to-mark-its-20th-anniversary","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach Jewish Film Festival returns Jan. 17 to mark its 20th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jewish Film Festival in Long Beach will return for its 20th year, screening five Jewish-themed films including romantic comedies, dramas and animation at the Alpert Jewish Community Center from premiere night Wednesday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Jan. 21.<\/p>\n<p>Each day of the festival will feature a different film that provides a window into the Jewish experience and perspective, exploring both contemporary and historical themes.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the festival, there will be prescreening receptions and guest speakers. The reception at the premiere night will feature a red carpet, gourmet popcorn, live music and a screening of the first film of the festival, \u201cMarrying Myself.\u201d The 2022 comedy is about a 38-year-old woman who gives up on men and decides to do exactly what the film title implies, until something unexpected happens.<\/p>\n<p>The festival schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. \u2013 \u201cMarrying Myself\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. \u2013 \u201cThe Story of Annette Zelman\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. \u2013 \u201cMatchmaking\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. \u2013 \u201cFarewell, Mr. Haffman\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sunday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. \u2013 \u201cMy Father\u2019s Secrets\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tickets are on sale now and can be bought\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpertjcc.org\/filmfestival\/#tickets\">here.<\/a>\u00a0Admission starts at $25 for premiere night ($20 for AJCC members) and $20 for all other film screenings ($15 for AJCC members).<\/p>\n<p>A festival pass is also available for $118 ($85 AJCC members), which includes access to all screenings, VIP skip-the-line, unlimited drinks at receptions, a souvenir popcorn container and more.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be two free screenings before the main events start. One is for teens on Saturday, Jan. 6 showing \u201cYou Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,\u201d and one on Sunday, Jan. 14 showing \u201cAn American Tail,\u201d good for the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>All festival events will be held at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Jewish Long Beach Campus.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Alpert Jewish Community Center is located at 3801 E.
