After releasing its annual list of the 100 Best Brunch Spots<\/a> in the United States, Yelp! has named Downtown Long Beach’s The Breakfast Bar the 14th best place to score brunch\u2014and rightfully so.<\/p>\n

When Pam and Joshua Beadel opened The Breakfast Bar in 2013\u2014in a joint that once tried to create a Margaritaville-like space complete with tinted windows, fake straw hut roofing, and a complete lack of tact\u2014Long Beach didn\u2019t quite know what they were getting.<\/p>\n

The Breakfast Bar is the place you go to get breakfast food you can\u2019t get elsewhere. Their Hung Over plate\u2014a dish of fries slathered in gravy, eggs, sausage, pico de gallo, and sour cream\u2014is nothing short of wondrous (and acts very Hair of the Dog-ish when paired with one of their breakfast Mai Tais or mimosas).<\/p>\n

Uncle Marcee\u2019s Omelet Casserole\u2014a dish that is prepared a day ahead\u2014is worth every eggy, cheesy bite. Hell, even their Naked Cakes\u2014whole wheat berries freshly ground, blended with buttermilk, and stacked after grilling\u2014are easily the best pancakes in DTLB.<\/p>\n

Criticisms against Yelp! notwithstanding\u2014while it can be a source of good, it tends to be\u00a0detrimental to any community’s food: I find both their aggressive and unethical advertising tactics<\/a> paired with an excessively democratic food reviewing process that allows users to give restaurants one star\u2014there is no question that being sorted and ranked among brunch spots across the entire nation and scoring a place near the top is a honor that shouldn’t be dismissed.<\/p>\n
