{"id":83652,"date":"2024-09-19T09:45:50","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T16:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=83652"},"modified":"2024-09-19T12:04:02","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T19:04:02","slug":"teleferic-barcelona-long-beach-paella-tapas-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/food\/teleferic-barcelona-long-beach-paella-tapas-opening","title":{"rendered":"From northern Spain to Long Beach, Telef\u00e8ric Barcelona shows off this family\u2019s paella and tapas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Spanish restaurant specializing in tapas and paella is opening Saturday at 2nd &amp; PCH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-owned by brother and sister duo Xavi and Maria Padrosa, the original <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telefericbarcelona.com\/\">Telef\u00e8ric Barcelona<\/a> location was opened by their parents more than 30 years ago in Sant Cugat northwest of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their mother, originally from Pamplona, was a pioneer in bringing pintxos to the Catalonia region in northeastern Spain, Xavi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telef\u00e8ric Barcelona offers a wide variety of appetizers, also known as tapas or pintxos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlights include Crab Croquetas ($10) made with Mediterranean crabs topped with tuna sashimi and spicy aioli, along with Pulpo Telef\u00e8ric ($19), a Galician octopus served with truffle oil and piment\u00e9n potato pur\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to order paella, Xavi recommends the Paella Negra ($46). Now, the restaurant has three locations in Northern California and opened a location in Brentwood in February last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The siblings take special care to ensure guests have an authentic experience at the new 125-seat restaurant, importing tile and furniture from Spain along with all of the managers and chefs, Xavi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI always like to say it\u2019s a trip to Spain with no passport required,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n    <a href=\"#XHECJQES\">Link<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria handles the design and architecture for each location, while Xavi runs the day-to-day operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSometimes working with family is not easy, but we respect each other\u2019s space a lot,\u201d Xavi said. \u201cI don\u2019t enter on the design part and she doesn\u2019t enter on the operations side of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xavi said he found the location at 2nd &amp; PCH while biking through the area training for a triathlon. He was immediately drawn to the \u201cMediterranean feel\u201d of the shopping center with views of Alamitos Bay, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Jean Paul Wardy \u2014 founder and CEO of CenterCal Properties which owns 2nd &amp; PCH \u2014 visited one of the Telef\u00e8ric locations in Northern California, Xavi said he knew the expansion was meant to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The restaurant will hold a soft opening starting Saturday. The Long Beach location will only be open for dinner until Oct. 1, then will expand to its usual hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telef\u00e8ric Barcelona adds an 18% service charge to each check to ensure it is able to provide equitable wages to employees, Xavi said.
