{"id":84239,"date":"2024-11-12T11:56:29","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T19:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=84239"},"modified":"2024-11-12T12:03:15","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T20:03:15","slug":"long-beach-haunted-house-raises-5000-and-piles-of-donations-for-rescue-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/long-beach-haunted-house-raises-5000-and-piles-of-donations-for-rescue-mission","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach haunted house raises $5,000 and piles of donations for Rescue Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An East Long Beach family raised over $5,000 this year and collected seven barrels of donated goods to help those in need during an <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/a-haunted-homemade-fairy-tale-takes-over-this-mans-east-long-beach-house-each-halloween\/\">extravagant haunted house they host<\/a> in their front yard each Halloween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert Duck and his family, with the help of volunteer local drama students, operated the haunted maze for five nights in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They raised the money through a $5 suggested donation, and they had barrels outside the entrance for anyone who wanted to donate canned goods, hygiene items or non-perishables. The donated goods and money will go to the Long Beach Rescue Mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n    <a href=\"#XHECJQES\">Link<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The haunted maze, on Fairbrook Street just west of North Bellflower Boulevard, was open on weekend nights the two weekends prior to Halloween. Donations were accepted through last Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the maze collected $6,010 in donations and seven barrels of food and other goods for the Rescue Mission. In 2022, it raised $4,000 and 12 donation bins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rescue Mission, on Pacific Avenue in the Washington neighborhood, has provided food, clothing, shelter and other services to unhoused people since 1972.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duck has set up the maze at his home for the past four years and said he plans on making it even bigger next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A sign outside the maze features a fairytale Duck wrote himself, about a fictional Long Beach widow in the early 1900s who kidnaps local children in an attempt to cover the grief of losing her husband and two sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Haunted Long Beach 2024: The Fairytale of Fairbrook Manor\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_vhnMSbq9jc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
