{"id":86705,"date":"2025-08-19T09:08:46","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T16:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/?p=86705"},"modified":"2025-08-19T09:11:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T16:11:37","slug":"the-wiz-long-beach-fake-tickets-stubhub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/esd\/hi-lo\/art\/the-wiz-long-beach-fake-tickets-stubhub","title":{"rendered":"Fake tickets to nonexistent Long Beach showing of &#8216;The Wiz&#8217; are being sold on StubHub, theater owner says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you are looking for tickets to the hit Broadway musical \u201cThe Wiz,\u201d you may be thrilled to see on StubHub\u2019s site or app that it\u2019s playing right here in Long Beach at the Aurora Theater \u2014 except it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Aurora Theater owner and artistic director Charles Tentindo, someone has been selling tickets on StubHub to a nonexistent show at his theater, located at 4412 East Village Rd. He said the fake ticket sales have been \u201cdevastating for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are a small business fighting to survive,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd now we\u2019re forced to turn away heartbroken families who thought they were coming to see a show that was never even playing here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of this writing, StubHub was selling tickets for \u201cThe Wiz\u201d at the Aurora Theater in Long Beach for $54 to $337 each between Aug. 20 and Sept. 5, even though it was never scheduled to play there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n    <a href=\"#XHECJQES\">Link<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The dates correspond to a scheduled run at the similarly named Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, Ga., from Aug. 20 to Sept. 7, according to that theater\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>StubHub is a ticket reselling site where sellers can set prices for tickets they had purchased that may be higher or lower than the original amount. According to StubHub, all ticket sales are final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou cannot change, cancel or return any orders after the sale is complete,\u201d StubHub\u2019s website states, including \u201cpurchasing tickets for the wrong event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the Aurora Theatre in Georgia, the musical is also performing at Citizens Opera House in Boston this month and at Segerstrom Center in Orange County in January 2026, according to those theaters\u2019 websites \u2014 all correctly identified in StubHub with the glaring exception of the Aurora Theater in Long Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople first started calling me two weeks ago asking me if I was showing \u2018The Wiz,\u2019\u201d Tentindo said. \u201cI told them no, but they kept on texting me and emailing me, and then it continued for several days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tentindo described a woman showing up who said her father was on his way to the theater, driving a long distance with 10 other family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe began to cry in front of me,\u201d he said. \u201cI had to console her. Cordova.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tentindo tried calling StubHub to fix the problem, but to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI spoke to StubHub three times and got the runaround each time,\u201d he said. \u201cThey wanted me to join StubHub for some reason and then asked me to take screenshots of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Long Beach Post also tried contacting StubHub to ask about the error but was met with indifference and requests for screenshots and information that did not resolve the problem or explain why it happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tentindo also reported the matter to local authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I spoke to the police, they basically told me that if people show up at your theater and you have an altercation, please call us,\u201d Tentindo said. \u201cThey were put on standby alert.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that, Tentindo said he tried finding security to make sure last Saturday\u2019s performance of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/hi-lo\/art\/white-rabbit-red-rabbit-long-beach-play\/\">White Rabbit Red Rabbit<\/a>\u201d at his theater with actor Paul Williams was not interrupted by people asking about \u201cThe Wiz.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was very stressful, and I could not find any security guard, so I had to have friends show up to watch the door,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tentindo is not the only one who has suffered because of falsely sold tickets. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiro7.com\/news\/local\/more-than-200-fans-turned-away-seattle-concert-due-fake-tickets-bought-stubhub-vivid-seats\/3QPLP23WJBAT7NPIA3EBRAPJEM\/\">200 fans in Seattle<\/a> were turned away from a concert there after purchasing fake tickets through StubHub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>StubHub says it has a \u201cFanProtect guarantee\u201d that allows people to \u201cbuy tickets with confidence\u201d and \u201cget valid tickets to any event or your money back.\u201d StubHub also lists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stubhub.com\/legal\/?section=sp\">seller policies<\/a> that require sellers to only list valid tickets with correct information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf a seller does not follow these policies, we\u2019ll step in to obtain the correct tickets from the seller, or offer you replacement tickets or a full refund,\u201d StubHub says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s up to buyers to contact StubHub to try to get a refund.
