Compound, a nonprofit organization with a Zaferia-neighborhood warehouse and events space that specializes in arts, wellness and food, will permanently close this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founder Megan Tagliaferri announced the \u201cdifficult decision\u201d on social media on Tuesday<\/a>, citing \u201cthe unprecedented and challenging funding landscape for nonprofits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the announcement originally said the last day of public operation was Aug. 18, Compound will host the public one final time this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., said a spokesperson for the nonprofit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closure is Compound\u2019s second in three years<\/a>. The 15,000-square-foot space first opened in July 2021 with the goal of \u201ccreating a place that is affirming, inclusive and open,\u201d Tagliaferri said at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compound previously closed in September 2022 because of \u201cunforeseeable and insurmountable challenges\u201d brought on by the pandemic. In January 2024, the space relaunched with a food concept, Union@Compound<\/a>, featuring a menu curated by Chef Eugene Santiago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compound contained a hybrid art gallery, a healing center, a retail space, and a restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, the space will host a free workshop with artist Fay Ray, who will teach visitors to create collages inspired by her exhibition at Compound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titled \u201cPuerperal\u201d \u2014 a Latin word defined as \u201cwoman who has given birth\u201d \u2014 the display features nearly two dozen sculptures. One of the ceramic sculptures depicts Ray and her mother sitting side by side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the art workshop, Compound will host live music performances from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All day on Sunday, visitors will get 50% off wine, beer and items in the retail shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tagliaferri expressed her gratitude to \u201ceveryone who has devoted their energy, livelihood and passion\u201d to Compound\u2019s stated mission of \u201cculture shifts consciousness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
