Or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/newsletters\">sign up<\/a>\u00a0for our Eat See Do newsletter to get it in your inbox.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brace yourself this weekend and next as three performances electrify the Carpenter Performing Arts Center stage \u2014 the Miles Electric Band, guitarist Charo, and Broadway performer and actor Mandy Patinkin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First up this Friday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. is the <strong>Miles Electric Band<\/strong>, celebrating Miles Davis\u2019 centennial with what the Center describes as a \u201cpowerful homage\u201d to the iconic jazz trumpeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davis is perhaps best known for his 1959 album \u201cKind of Blue\u201d \u2014 widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential jazz records of all time \u2014 though his decades-long career since then embraced a variety of forward-looking innovative sounds, including electronic music.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SFJAZZ Singles: Miles Electric Band performs &quot;Decoy&quot;\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x5KGa35K7k0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in May 1926, Davis would have turned 100 this year had he not passed away from a brain aneurysm in 1991, shortly after performing a career-overview concert at a jazz festival in Paris and a birthday celebration concert at the Hollywood Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An all-star ensemble at the Carpenter Center on Friday features Emmy and Grammy Award-winning producer and drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., along with Darryl Jones, Robert Irving III, Munyungo Jackson, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Antoine Roney, Keyon Harrold, DJ Logic and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these Miles Davis alumni and next-generation innovators will create, according to the Center, a \u201cremarkable fusion of past and present\u201d that \u201cexpand[s] the boundaries of jazz while honoring the innovations of Miles Davis\u2019s electric period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guitarist <strong>Charo<\/strong> then takes the stage Saturday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m., bringing \u201cvivacious humor, astounding flamenco guitar talent and sparkling stage presence,\u201d according to the Carpenter Center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born and musically trained in Spain, Charo became a fixture on American television sitcoms and variety shows in the 1970s, known for her vibrant costuming and performance style, big hair and signature phrase \u201ccuchi-cuchi.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"788\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-788x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-88094\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-788x1024.png 788w, https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-231x300.png 231w, https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-768x999.png 768w, https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-83x108.png 83w, https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-400x520.png 400w, https:\/\/img.lbpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/28103451\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV.png 1126w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Charo, performing at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 31. Photo courtesy of the Center.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center describes Charo as a virtuoso guitarist, singer, composer, actress and comedienne who has been voted \u201cBest Flamenco Guitarist\u201d twice by <em>Guitar Magazine<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She released the album \u201cFantastico!
