MemorialCare Miller Children\u2019s Hospital and With Purpose Long Beach are hosting a charity children\u2019s art show at Inspyr Art Studio on Sunday.<\/p>\n
With Purpose is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer. They work to prompt legislative change for childhood cancer research, which is vastly underfunded in the United States, stated the release.<\/p>\n
In 2016, the National Cancer Institute designated roughly 4 percent of its research budget to childhood cancer, according to the institute\u2019s annual report. Only three cancer treatments have been approved for children since the 1970s, according to a With Purpose representative, whereas more than 100 new treatments for adult cancer were approved in the first six months of 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis art show is an important opportunity for our patients to give back to the community and help raise awareness of the issues surrounding childhood cancer treatment,\u201d Jonathan Jaques spokesperson Lourdes Narvaez said in a statement. \u201cWe hope the Long Beach community will rally around this important cause and advocate for change in the approach to finding new treatments for childhood cancer and serious blood disorders.\u201d<\/p>\n
Create With Purpose is a one-night gallery event that will showcase artwork created by patients of Jonathan Jaques Children\u2019s Cancer Center. While MemorialCare Miller Children\u2019s Hospital regularly hosts fundraisers, including art shows, this will be the first time the children\u2019s work has been displayed in a gallery setting outside of the hospital, according to the release. The artwork will be available for purchase and proceeds will go to MemorialCare Miller Children\u2019s Hospital and With Purpose.<\/p>\n
\u201cCreate With Purpose is such a special event to us, as we know that being immersed in our community is how we affect real change for our kids,\u201d With Purpose Long Beach representative Bianca Granado said in a statement. \u201cWe are excited to have the patients from Jonathan Jaques Children\u2019s Cancer Center proudly share their talents and stories in a real art gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n
