They’re settled out of the kitten- or puppyhood stage and are less likely to leap to the top of the curtains or eat your kid’s homework.

Third, they deserve it. Many of them have been abandoned to the shelter after having been a possibly loved family pet because of one reason or another. I’ve heard more than one story about people who turned their dog to a shelter because they wanted a puppy.

Fourth, that’s another thing. Puppies and kittens are more in demand than adults, and so the adults get overlooked. And they get born—people don’t or won’t spay or neuter their pets, and the shelter winds up with the results of the irresponsibility. To stop myself for stepping on the soapbox, I’ll go to Fifth.

Fifth, there are countless other ideas, but here’s a good one for you:

All senior pets (7 and over) are eligible to get the best senior-meal deal in town for their new humans! Thai Silk on Broadway in Long Beach will offer $25 off a delicious meal to anyone who adopts a senior pet and brings in the adoption papers within 30 days.

Who said that you can age out of usefulness, and that pets don’t pull their weight?

Long Beach Animal Care Services (ACS) is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a $20 adoption fee for senior pets!
