Virtually Pets<\/h1>\n

Pets in shelters and rescues get there for a number of reasons, and most of them are human. Here are three who were brought in for three different reasons and who are waiting at Long Beach Animal Care Services<\/a>\u00a0for someone to balance it all out for them.<\/p>\n

Please, before you adopt a pet, check out our shelter. The staff, volunteers and rescues in the community do a great job getting the cats, dogs and rabbits ready for new homes and out of there before it\u2019s too late for them.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Little Lilo<\/strong> is a middle-age smooth-coated Chihuahua who was found as a stray, i.e., wandering the streets with no apparent means of surviving hunger and at the mercy of speeding cars. He\u2019s a shy fellow but very sweet\u2014i.e., again, lots of potential for a house dog!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The following two pets are seniors and thereby qualify their new human for $25 off dining at Thai Silk Restaurant on Broadway (see flier above). Who says that pets don\u2019t earn their keep?<\/p>\n

Sparky (<\/strong>ID#A394449) is about 9 years old and seems to be a mix of akita and Labrador retriever. His owner gave him up, which may have been horrible for him or her to know that Sparky might not make it out alive. This guy may be classified as a senior, but he\u2019s certainly not walking or playing like one! He socializes great with other dogs in the play group and loves playing fetch with the volunteers.<\/p>\n

Angel <\/strong>(ID#A601712) outlived her owner. She\u2019s 17 years old and deserves to live the rest of her years in a loving home like the one she was accustomed to. She was obviously very well cared for, and it would have broken her owner\u2019s heart to see her relinquished to a shelter. When it comes to be that time for you, make sure that your pets are covered in your will.<\/p>\n

This month only, the grassroots free spay\/neuter organization<\/strong> Fix Long Beach will distribute vouchers and education for spay\/neuter procedures for your unfixed dog or cat. Students will make cards, which will be hung on the cages of all the pets awaiting new homes during this Valentine’s season. The Yappy Hour features the card judging and awards ceremony, love songs will be played, and human refreshments will be served as potential adopters visit with animals. Licensing is provided for residents within our jurisdiction at Saturday clinics; please bring your renewal notice and rabies certificate with you. Free Pet Food Distributions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beacon for Him <\/strong><\/a>has extended an outreach for people experiencing homelessness and their pets. Pet food, primarily dog food, is available at their facility at 439 West Anaheim Street, Mondays from 9:00AM to noon and Saturdays from noon to 3:00PM. A dog-washing station with a stainless-steel tub is also available onsite at these hours. Donations and supplies such as shampoo, flea control and, of course, pet food are always gratefully accepted.<\/p>\n
