The Long Beach Post has bravely explored the city\u2019s most haunted places in a series of videos<\/a> leading up to the debut of our newest installment: a look at the ghost of Station 12.<\/p>\n

The former Long Beach Station 12 in North Long Beach\u2014now a City Council field office\u2014is so notorious for its ghost that it landed on a list<\/a> of the nation\u2019s 10 most haunted firehouses.<\/p>\n

John Makemson, a firefighter known as “Smokey” who died of natural causes in 1988, has never quite left the building. Firefighters have reported numerous paranormal experiences over the years, including waking up unable to speak or move.<\/p>\n

We spoke with firefighter Brian Fisk, who worked at the station in the late 1990s and early 2000s, along with his 15-year-old daughter Savannah, whose earliest memory is encountering John at age 3.<\/p>\n

The memory still lingers with her; while at the station this month, Savannah heard Makemson whisper, \u201cYou\u2019re back<\/i> \u2026 \u201c<\/p>\n
