Organized by local artist Erick Guadarrama to encourage more women to paint and get paid, there’s a handful of new murals to be seen on the exterior of Homeland Cultural Center at 1321 E. Anaheim St.

Supervisor Heather Green called the works a great mix of old school and new school pieces, with graffiti art by Acker, Howdy and KBH crew members surrounding murals by Guadarrama, Alepsis Hernandez, Karina Vasquez and Kristyn Taylor.

For many of the artists, it was their first time visiting Homeland—a long-standing fixture of the Cambodia Town community at MacArthur Park providing young people exposure to the arts—and for some, their first time painting a mural. Guadarrama said it’s always easy to find yourself jobs, but to be able to give experience to burgeoning artists means a lot to him, plus, he gets to introduce his daughter to women pursuing their art careers.

The murals will be up for the next four or five months before a new group comes in to paint them over.
