Salud Juice announced its official reopening on the corner of 4th Street this week. The remodeled corner establishment offers more room for patrons to sit, dine and drink on the small business’s health-conscious offerings.
Salud’s menu before the move ranged from raw tacos, hearty bowls and soups, as well as a build-a-bowl breakfast option, not to mention a variety of specially offered vegan and gluten-free pies, so it’s no surprise that its now-even-more-extensive menu is a vegan work of art (and it’s still being updated).
At least, those were my feelings devouring a Fiesta Bowl and Mushroom Pizza during a late lunch Wednesday, followed by a slice of the Lavender Rose Cheesecake for dessert. The Salud kitchen always lives up to its mission, to provide a healthy, and oh-so satisfying, alternative to instant food.
The Fiesta Bowl: spanish rice, sprouted black beans, onion, cilantro, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper rings, avocado and Mushroom Pizza (top): cauliflower flatbread topped with almond ricotta, arugula, crimini and oyster mushrooms, sundried tomato, parmesan, olive oil and balsamic.
Salud has grown quickly since owner Angela Almaguer opened her first shop right off 4th Street’s Retro Row in 2015, with the opening of a second location a short seven months later connected to 2nd Street’s Belmont Athletic Club.
The new space on 4th Street reflects that growth, a business supported by the Long Beach community’s general desire to drink and eat healthy, and to spend time in the high-energy environment constantly provided by Almaguer and team.
It’s a transformation from Salud’s original location in the same building just around the corner, often a happening, albeit small space to spend time, into a larger, brighter establishment with plenty of natural light, huge windows opening up to both 4th Street and Cherry Avenue, hanging plants and macrame fixtures galore.
And scrawled across the wall in pink, a neon sign reads “cheers to your health,” as much a pleasantly decorative piece as a look back at Almaguer’s beginnings helping her family and friends lead healthier lifestyles.
Salud Juice is located at 1944 East 4th Street.
