DJ Lithuanian Prince will be spinning at Dancin’ in the Streets on Saturday.

[Eds. note: A previous version of this story listed the North Pine Twilight Walk as occuring on Friday, June 14 when in fact it is happening on Friday, June 21. It will appear in next week’s Post Picks.]

ICONS
No need to take a weekend out to Vegas to catch a decent celebrity-themed drag show anymore. Ripples has a celebrity-impersonator drag show that’s just as top-shelf as Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas. ICONS is sort of like an old school variety show wrapped around weekly themes (recent themes have included Disney princesses, Broadway babies, and old Hollywood). Great singing, great comedy, great cleavage.
Where: Ripples, 5101 E Ocean Blvd. (562) 433-0357
When: Thursday, June 13, 9:45PM
Website:www.clubripples.com
Admission: $5
What else?: The show begins at 9:45 sharp, but the seating upstairs starts at 9:15 so it behooves you to get there early and grab a seat up front. Like Sea World, the first several rows will get wet.

The 30-Minute Beach Clean-Up
How long have you lived in Long Beach and how many times have you kicked yourself for not getting out there and meet new, locals like yourself? Ask yourself another question? When was the last time you really broke a sweat for Long Beach? You can finally respond to both of those lingering questions with the monthly 30-Minute Beach Clean-Up—now in its 14th year as of this Saturday—that’s 169 consecutive Saturdays! It’s a win-win: you get to meet locals like yourself with a common goal and Belmont’s beach gets a quick spit and shine. Arrive by 10 a.m. for free parking at 1 Granada Ave. Trash bags and gloves available.
Where: Ocean Blvd At Granada Ave., Belmont Shore
When: Saturday, June 15, 10am
Website: www.beachcleanup.org
Admission: Free.
What else?: Stick around after the clean up, event organizers are hosting a Star Spangled Banner Sing Off. The winner (any age and you don’t have to be from Long Beach) walks away with a cool $1,000. You can actually profit from this one!

Dancin’ in the Streets
The first event of this season’s Summer and Music concert series, Dancing in the Streets became an official event when SAM organizers saw that people spilled over onto Pine Avenue while the bands and DJs played on. So now, this night is split into two halves—first half: local troubadour Matt Costa knocks out a set of Americana rock in the vein of Ryan Adams-meets-Belle and Sebastian. The second half, DJ Lithuanian Prince—maybe one of the smartest DJs you’ll hear all year—spins a quirky mix of British psychedelia, bouncy Tamla-Motown, and obscure freakbeat 45s. Trust me on this: DJ Lithuanian Prince is worth the trip alone.
Where: 714 Pine Avenue (at the intersection of Pine Ave. & 7th St.)
When: Saturday, June 15, 7PM to 11PM
Website:www.summerandmusic.com
Admission: Free to get in, but bring money for the beer garden and food trucks.

18th Annual Dia de San Juan Festival
Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry and the gang are stuck in the middle of the Puerto Rican Day parade and everyone’s miserable because of the heat and the gridlock? This day at the park should be nothing like that—well, except for the celebration of Puerto Rica part. From all of my research, it looks like this event is sorting out to be a small-scale Puerto Rican Lollapalooza: well-known Puerto Rican bands such as Lucky Seven and Son Mayor roca hacia fuera while you’re free to roam the Queen Mary’s sprawling lawns. And just like a modern-day Lollapalooza, extra money will get you VIP cabanas, private bathrooms (pretty sure they’ll be worth the cash) and yes, bottle service.
Where: Queen Mary Events Park, 1126 Queens Hwy.
When: Sunday, June 16, 10AM
Website:www.fiestalegre.net
Admission: $27 advance, $32 at the gate
What else?: The good news: Ice chests are allowed into the event. The bad news: No outside alcohol.

Fuzz
Thick as molasses power chords and bass buzz over sparse snare and hi-hats. That’s Ty Segall’s Fuzz in one sentence. Really worth the price of admission if you’re a fan of Black Sabbath’s heaviness and The Black Keys’ minimalism. Segall (born in Laguna Beach, but lives in San Francisco) has been receiving a lot of critical acclaim as of late—especially from the East Coast music press. Considering his band Fuzz is less than a six-months-old, this could be one of those legendary indie shows where people brag, “Yeah, I saw one of their first shows at Alex’s…” afterwards.
Where: Alex’s Bar, 2913 E. Anaheim St., (562) 434-8292
When: Wednesday, June 19
Website:www.alexsbar.com
Admission: $8 advance, $10 at the door
