The inaugural Dia De Los Verdes, a one-day celebration of living sustainably through creativity, movement, art, food, community and ceremony, draws inspiration from Dia de los Muertos, a celebration of life, family and culture. Attendees will be welcomed through the main entrance with decorated altars, music and art.
On Saturday, October 25 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM, stop by The Growing Experience Urban Farm in Long Beach to experience live performances from local bands, farm and bicycle tours, yoga, local food and live art throughout the day. Guests who bring their own reusable cups can take advantage of the provided hydration stations. Guests are also highly encouraged to bring their own yoga mats, t-shirts for screen printing and a squash dish for the cook-off.
"The intent of Dia De Los Verdes is to bring everyone together under something that can unite us all. It’s with the roots of our environment, food, art, and community that there’s common ground. I think this event is a nod to our community in the way we work together on a daily basis to strive for a more sustainable, thriving future here in Long Beach," said Tiffany Chen, a Green Long Beach! event organizer.
Dia de los Verdes will kick off at 10:00AM with an opening ceremony, followed by Workshops and activities that will include Seed Bomb Making with Wild Dave, Paper Mache Mask Coloring, a Halloween Costume Swap and a Bike Safety Workshop by Empact Long Beach, featuring a bike and helmet giveway. Three yoga workshops at 10:00AM, 2:00PM and 4:30PM will set your body straight, while local organic food providers will improve your health, at least for the day.
The Ladyfarmer, Carmen Sima, Wide Eyes Open Palms, The Growing Experience Farm Stand and many more will be providing delicious, local food throughout the day. Live music performances will include DJ Hawkeye, the LBPOD Drum Circle, and Natural Hi-Fi among others.
The Growing Experience Urban Farm is located at 750 Via Carmelitos.
