Those looking to enjoy all things German this month—including das bier!—and be able to give back to the community may want to head down to Promenade Square Park in Long Beach in a few weeks, where the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. will present Long Beach Oktoberfest.
The inaugural event—set for Saturday, October 17—will feature a Leinenkugel Bier Garden, live bands, German food trucks as well as games and activities, including mug holding, corn hole and giant jenga, according to a press release.
“Long Beach Oktoberfest brings the fun of a contemporary Biergarten including Leinenkugel beer, German food and live music to downtown,” said event director Mary Doherty. “Promenade Square Park is easily accessible via public transportation and is conveniently located near popular bars and restaurants. Most importantly, both the admission fee and beers are reasonably priced for millennial attendees.”
Beers will be served in 12-ounce cups at $5 a cup. Organizers said no steins will be sold or allowed at the event.
Tickets for general admission are $10. For $20, upgrade to VIP status and get a Leinenkugel T-shirt, two free beers and access to special, limited edition-style beers such as the “Uber Oktoberfest.”
If you are looking to get into this event for free, make sure to head out to the beach (at Belmont Shore, One South Granada Avenue) at 10:00AM that same day for an hour-long beach cleanup.
The first 100 participants aged 21 or older will receive a Leinenkugel T-shirt and free admission ticket to Oktoberfest. Bags and gloves will be provided by Community Action Team.
Attendees beyond the first 100 receive a discounted voucher to Oktoberfest.
The cleanup is sponsored by the Long Beach Marine Institute and Canoes for a Cause, in partnership with community leader Justin Rudd.
In addition, organizers said 100 percent of the net proceeds from the event will benefit the Long Beach Marine Institute.
The Oktoberfest event is open to those 21 and older. Promenade Square Park is located at 210 East Third Street / 111 East Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, CA 90802.
The box office will open at 11:30AM with beer sales ending at 6:00PM.
All-day public parking access will be available near the event location for $5, organizers said.
