October is Arts Month, and the Arts Council for Long Beach wants to give everyone a chance to celebrate that very fact. Whether it’s by winning a prize, checking out a gallery, buying art, attending an art-related event or all of the above, the way you appreciate the arts during its commemorative month is up to you.
"This month is about celebrating the vitality of creative expression in our city,” said Arts Council Executive Director Griselda Suarez. “Every time we take in the lines of sculpture or a dancer in motion, we engage in honoring our humanity. The Arts are not only for our enjoyment but also a part of innovation for our civic life.”
Throughout the month, if you post a photo on Facebook and/or Instagram with up to two sentences about how you celebrate the arts, follow the Arts Council on Facebook and/or Instagram, as well as tag them with the inclusion of #OctoberIsArtsMonth in the description, you’ll be made eligible to be featured on the organization’s social media. Your eligibility to be featured will come hand in hand with eligibility to win the council’s 40th anniversary commemorative notebook featuring cover art by Long Beach artist Craig Cree Stone.
The Arts Council also encourages arts fans to buy local art, a surefire way to praise artists working and living in Long Beach and add to the continuation of their career. Check out the Arts Map to discover galleries and other businesses who support the arts, where you’ll likely be able to find something to love.
