The Willmore-area watering hole The Hawk, alongside award-winning local brewers Beachwood Brewing are teaming up on Saturday, April 7 to celebrate the return of Beachwood’s LBC IPA, this time to a wider audience.
“We thought it was about time to ramp up production and get kegs and 6-packs of LBC IPA out to the Long Beach market so it’s available everywhere, not just at our brewpub,” said Julian Shrago, owner and brewmaster at Beachwood.
Beachwood Brewing began making the LBC IPA about four years ago to celebrate the city where the brand began their brewing operation, one that many of its staff consider home, he said.
“We’re hoping that others will come to view LBC IPA the same way we do—as the unofficial, official IPA of Long Beach,” Shrago said.
Long Beach Calling! will have a beer garden featuring not only Beachwood’s LBC IPA, but local outfits Long Beach Beer Lab, Ten Mile Brewing and San Pedro’s Brouwerij West. Local artist Shaina Turian will be painting Picasso-style portraits alongside a handful of vendors, including Long Beach Jerky Co., the Me So Hungry food truck, live music from Low Hum and assorted DJs.
“We were fortunate to have Beachwood reach out to us about hosting an event for their release of LBC IPA,” said Kyle Flavin, owner of The Hawk. “We both wanted to put something together that focused on the city and simultaneously celebrated the local community. The goal is to celebrate Long Beach and hopefully give something back to the city we love and I think we couldn’t be more excited about it!”
Long Beach Calling! will take place at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 7 for a $5 cover.
The Hawk is located at 468 West Anaheim Street.
