Live After 5, the Downtown Long Beach Associates' monthly event, set in place to activate traditional spaces like bars and restaurants, as well as non-traditional outdoor venues such as parks, empty storefronts and street corners, continues this evening, January 8 with several performances by well-loved local bands and musicians. Happening on the second Thursday of each month, December's line-up featured MajicBulletTHeory, a seven-person jazz collective, LONG BEACH UNPLUGGED, who have been performing since 1990 and Kris Doron, an Orange County based singer and songwriter who brought a jazzy, acoustic soul sound to Public Beer and Wine.
Live After 5 LOCAL BEAT's lineup has some of your local favorites playing at several well known local spots downtown. MOVE, an ensemble of talented local musicians dedicated to the art of spontaneity, will be playing at The Sky Room. Shy But Flyy & Friends will be delivering their neo-soul, jazz, hip-hop and spoken word sounds at Rebel Bite and Wild Pack of Canaries, who won our Best of Long Beach 2014: Best Recent Album, will be opening for Joel Jerome of Dios Malos at Fingerprints Music. Last, but not least, Toaster Music with Jack Pharoah will be gracing the outdoors with their improvisational electronic sound on 4th St. and Olive Ave. (745 E. 4th St.). These musical performances will be playing from 5:00PM to 8:00PM so you have three hours to get your fill of some of Long Beach's most interesting set of musicians and all they have to offer our downtown scene.
From 8:00PM to 11:00PM beach trio Thy Squid and and local favorites Fathers & Suns will be playing at Art Exchange and Big Bad Rooster & The Get Down Boys will be strutting their stuff at The Blind Donkey's basement venue.
The next Live After 5 will showcase a Valentine's Day theme at more locations in Downtown on and around Pine Ave. on February 12.
All shows are free. For more information visit the Downtown Long Beach Associates' website here and keep up to date with any changes on the Facebook event page here.
