Women in Long Beach Music to Perform at 4th Street Vine

Long Beach Music Collective and Society for Long Beach Music are collaborating to showcase an event featuring local bands and artists with women at the helm.

On Saturday, July 30 at 4th Street Vine, starting at 6:00PM, headliner Bootleg Orchestra, underground hip-hop rapper Ashley Dominique, shoegaze rock band Slice, experimental off-shoot Bitchcraft, and newcomers Jungle Gym are set to jam pack the evening with an eclectic lineup.

Story continued below.

“We hope that this event can serve as a catalyst to celebrate different music and cultures throughout Long Beach, and particularly highlight music and its narratives through the female perspective,” said the two organizations in a release. “Our musical output is a reflection of our lived experiences, creative approaches, and thought or coping processes, so this event is another way to honor the cultural work of women.”

“Hopefully, this event will be the first of a series that will spotlight different female-led bands throughout all of Long Beach,” said Alex Hattick of Long Beach Music Collective in a statement.

Bootleg Orchestra is an almost completely female-led band. This is their last show before they give an in-studio performance at dublab radio station in late August, and take the stage at Music Tastes Good alongside De La Soul, Christian Scott, Sylvan Esso and more.

“In the first few months of Bootleg Orchestra, we knew what we were up against: a music industry that is patriarchal as well as fairly uneconomical for the full-time musician,” said Menchie Caliboso, the band’s creative producer and co-organizer of the event. “This event is important to us because it's empowering and reaffirming to see other women stand tall and make their presence known in a male-dominated music industry,”
