It’s official: Mayor Robert Garcia, the city’s first openly gay mayor, wed his long-time partner Matthew Mendez at a ceremony in Downtown Long Beach attended by roughly 700 guests.
It was arguably the social event of the year, drawing a who’s who of attendees at the historic First Congregation Church at Cedar Avenue and Third Street.
The wedding also included a champagne toast and reception, and even inspired a new flavor of ice cream to raise money for a local pet rescue.
Free news isn’t cheap.
We believe that everyone should have access to important local news, for free.
However, it costs money to keep a local news organization like this one—independently owned and operated here in Long Beach, without the backing of any national corporation—alive.
