The mock election will give students the chance to participate in every facet of a typical election. They will staff the polls, cast their ballot and witness the final canvass of the votes cast after the polls close, according to a release issued today.

"Engaging young people in our democracy has to start early in a setting that is conducive to learning and that begins in our schools," said Garcia in a statement. "My hope is that these students carry this experience with them into adulthood and in doing so become active and engaged citizens."

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with the City Clerk on this project," Cabrillo High Small Learning Community Lead Teacher, Joe D. Battle in a statement. "For our students, it brings to life what they’ve been learning in the classroom and puts it in a context in which they can readily understand."

The release states that students will be casting their ballots during three periods, including before, during and after lunch.
