Buena Park resident Angel Avila-Alvarez, 24, was killed in the incident, according to the coroner’s office.

CHP Officer Alex Rubio said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2014 Toyota Corolla veered toward the shoulder and across all lanes of traffic, until it hit the concrete center divider.

Alvarez was not wearing a seatbelt, and a good samaritan reportedly attempted to extract him from his vehicle after the crash. Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene.

All northbound lanes were temporarily closed following the incident, but were reopened by 5:00AM, according to the CHP.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol at 562.868.0503.
