An elderly pedestrian was killed when a sedan struck him as he was crossing a Long Beach street Friday night, authorities said.
The incident happened at about 8:30PM on Friday, August 12 at the intersection of Studebaker Road and Barbanell Street, near El Dorado Park.
Arriving officers found the pedestrian, described only as a 77-year-old Long Beach man, lying unconscious on Studebaker Road, according to a release by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). Bystanders who were already at the scene were at his side treating him.
Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics then transported the victim to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 19-year-old man from Los Alamitos was driving a 2004 Saturn north on Studebaker Road while the pedestrian was walking westbound across Studebaker Road at Barbanell Street, according to the release.
Officials said he did not see the pedestrian and struck him. The uninjured motorist remained at the scene, the release stated.
