National Night Out to Bring Police, Community Together

National Night OutLong Beach city officials encourage residents to get to know their local police officers tomorrow evening for National Night Out, an annual nationwide event where people go out and meet their neighbors and police in an attempt to building good police-community relations.

For National Night Out, Councilman Dee Andrews, members of the Long Beach Police Department, the Department of Parks, Recreations, and Marine and local residents residents will meet in Wrigley Heights to enjoy a special concert hosted by the Municipal Band, according to a release from Andrews’ office.

“It is great to have the community come together,” said Andrews in a statement. “We are all one City, and this concert will provide a great opportunity to meet your neighbor and enjoy some music.”

The concert will take place at 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at the Veteran’s Park Community Center which is located at 101 East 28th Street.

 Police attending National Night Out events will be giving out limited edition LBPD fidget spinners to residents participating in the public-safety celebration, according to the LBPD Facebook page.

Long Beach Be SAFE and West Long Beach Safe Passages encourages residents to join them at Admiral Kidd Park for their 3rd annual West Long Beach National Night Out community event.

The celebration will feature a community barbeque and ice cream social, a back to school raffle, a free job fair for young adults, parent empowerment workshops and a meet and greet with neighbors, the West Division of the LBPD and the local fire department.

The event will be held at 5:30PM to 8:30PM and Admiral Kidd Park is located at 2125 Santa Fe Avenue.

For those who are unable to join in the West Long Beach and Wrigley Heights fun, City Council members like Suzie Price and Rex Richardson encourage people to host their own, casual community events or simply lock their doors and windows, turn on outdoor lights and spend a few hours of their evening outside with their neighbors and police.
