An immigration forum will be held this Saturday in North Long Beach to help residents who may have questions regarding their immigration status and will also serve as a legal clinic and workshop regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
The free event is hosted by Eighth District Councilman Al Austin and state Sen. Ricardo Lara.
"It is important to let immigrant families know that they have support and assistance during this critical time,” Austin said in a statement. “My hope is that this forum will bring peace and comfort to the community by informing residents of their rights as immigrants.”
The program will start with a “Know Your Rights” presentation by the Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition followed by a workshop on current issues related to DACA provided by Centro CHA. There will also be attorneys available during a free legal clinic.
“Now more than ever when immigrant families are under attack in Washington, we need to do our part in Long Beach to educate them about their rights under California law and the U.S. Constitution,” Lara said in a statement “This free forum will offer much-needed information about legal services and other programs so immigrant families can be safe, secure and can stay here where they belong.”
