Some 50 students and staff members of the John Wesley International Barber and Beauty College were evacuated onto Pine Avenue in Long Beach this afternoon, after “light smoke” appeared and an interior alarm was set off, according to Long Beach fire officials.

Southern California Edison officials are currently at the scene in the empty building, and have found no signs of a fire, Long Beach Fire Department Spokesperson Brian Fisk said.

“There was light smoke, but after an hour, they haven’t been able to determine what caused it,” said Fisk.

He said those involved originally thought the alarm may have been caused by the electrical panel in the building, but officials have not found any evidence supporting the presence of a fire.
