Long Beach Poly High School received a $50,000 donation from 7-Eleven Friday night as a gesture of support for the midtown community, it was announced. The check was presented during the halftime show at the football game versus Wilson High School at Veteran’s Stadium.

“I welcome 7-Eleven into the District, and I am very grateful for their acknowledgement of one of the City’s most notable assets, Long Beach Poly,” Councilman Dee Andrews said in a statement. “As a proud Jackrabbit, I cannot think of a better way to show a sense of community, than by giving back to the youth.”

A new 7-Eleven is expected to open in Long Beach’s midtown area, and has committed to hiring residents, as well as providing healthy food options and convenience for the community.

“Poly is going to put this generous contribution to good use,” Quentin Brown, co-principal at Long Beach Poly High School, said in a statement. “We have a great partnership with the local parks, community centers, and the Council Office, and we are excited to add 7-Eleven as another partner to our school.”
