Fire Chief Mike DuReeThe California Fire Chiefs Association (CalChiefs) today named Long Beach Beach Fire Department (LBFD) Chief Mike DuRee the new president of the organization.

DuRee will serve for a one-year term in the position, after his selection by other California fire chiefs, according to the announcement.

“I want to congratulate Chief DuRee for being elected by his peers for this important leadership role,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “Chief DuRee’s selection highlights his dedication to our community and his commitment to enhance fire service throughout California.”

The chiefs from more than 1,000 fire agencies throughout California comprise CalChiefs, including municipal fire service agencies, fire districts (paid, combination and volunteer), state and federal government agencies and corporate fire brigades. 

CalChiefs is a professional organization geared toward solving a large number of issues, including fire service and EMS delivery, promoting, developing and enhancing public safety at the state and national level.

“I am proud and humbled to be selected as the President of the California Fire Chiefs Association by my peers,” said DuRee in a statement. “The fire service in California has always been at the forefront of innovation and strategic planning. I will continue this legacy and work with our partners throughout the state, region, and country to incorporate service delivery models that provide world class service to our communities.”
