The Greenbelt Heights Neighborhood Association (GHNA), in partnership with Third District Office Councilwoman Suzie Price, will host the grand opening of the first phase of the neighborhood’s greenbelt improvement project this Saturday, September 10, from 4:30 to 7:30PM.

The opening will be located at the Greenbelt’s southern end on Roswell Avenue between East 7th and East 8th streets, according to a city release issued today.

“These improvements will enhance the neighborhood and provide a perfect place for the community to relax and enjoy the outdoors,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. Garcia will also appear at the opening ceremony, according to the release.

The opening will see the improvement and revitalization of Greenbelt Heights’ famous landmark, the greenbelt (Pacific Electric Right of Way), which runs diagonally through Long Beach.

Such enhancements include a 10-foot-wide decomposed granite pathway, native and drought-tolerant trees and shrubs, an irrigation system, benches and natural seating areas, trash cans and dog waste disposal bag dispensers.

The event, held in conjunction with GHNA’s Greenbelt Fest 2016, is free to the public and will have refreshments. According to the release, local band Dad Company will also provide musical entertainment.

“I am so happy to see this stretch of greenbelt being revitalized,” said Councilwoman Price in a statement. “I love the improved walking path with drought-tolerant and native landscapes that have been planted.
