In a motion put forth by outgoing 3rd District Councilmember Gary DeLong, the City Council approved a recommendation this Tuesday to look into the costs of providing free Wi-Fi in one Long Beach’s most affluent corridors, 2nd Street in Belmont Shore.

The Belmont Shore Parking Commission will take on identifying the costs associated with implementing the free service while the City Manager will look at the costs of adding public Wi-Fi to all Long Beach fire stations, an idea brought forth in the same motion.

Currently, the city offers free Wi-Fi at all public parks and libraries, as well as the Long Beach Airport. There was no council discussion on the matter, including possibly implementing the measure in places where access to online services is limited and needed, such as the North and West Side, which some have found to be critical.
