Leadership Long Beach will recognize the graduates of the Institute’s Class of 2016 on Monday, June 20 at 6:00PM at the Grand Event Center. A total of 29 members representing a wide group of industries, experiences and resources, mirroring the diversity of Long Beach, will graduate this evening, according to the announcement.
The public is invited to the reception preceding the ceremony at 5:00PM.
With their community service projects and Long Beach loyalty, the organization seeks to enable more members of our seaside city with principled leadership experience.
The Class of 2016 began their year in August 2015 and for the past nine months have attended monthly sessions on key issues and challenges facing the city, given by leaders in the community, experts, as well as concerned citizens. Starting with an orientation day at Rancho Los Alamitos and ending with a community reception attended by US Congressman Alan Lowenthal and Councilwoman Suzie Price, the 27th class is now a part of the 1,000 plus alumni of the Leadership Long Beach family.
“We are pleased to graduate our 27th class of the Institute program for Leadership Long Beach,” stated Board President Veronica Davalos. “They began with the weekend mountain retreat and months of interactive and informative sessions, and have now progressed in their understanding of the many issues, challenges and opportunities in Long Beach for today and years to come.”
From the monthly sessions, participants created three group service projects to address citywide needs. The Mix brought together North Long Beach leaders to connect with others and address community issues. Home Away from Home involved over two dozen city and community partners gathering at Washington Middle School for a neighborhood cleanup and resource fair. You are Here set out to approach disengaged residents, and encourage them to participate through a three-part approach of Vote, Voice and Volunteer.
More than 125 service projects have been completed by previous classes, with these three initiatives expected to create lasting ripples far beyond graduation.
