A 63-year-old man was killed crossing the street in Long Beach’s Wrigley neighborhood Monday night.
The man was in a crosswalk on Pacific Avenue at Burnett Street around 8:45 p.m. when a Mercedes-Benz E320 headed south on Pacific hit him, police said. The intersection does not have a traffic signal.
The driver called 911 and got out of the car to help the pedestrian, who was left lying in the middle of the intersection after the crash, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department. A bystander also helped by starting CPR on the man, police said.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital where he died, the release said.
Police said the driver is a 41-year-old from Long Beach. Detectives don’t think he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police.
Authorities haven’t publicly identified the pedestrian. He lived in Long Beach, police said.
