A broken water pipe shut down streets near California Avenue and 33rd Street in Signal Hill until at least noon Saturday, according to the Signal Hill Police Department.

SHPD advised drivers to avoid the area while crews fix the line.

“I think its just an old pipe that burst; it’s common after rain,” said Senior Officer Andrew Serna.

The following roads were closed:

  • Northbound California Avenue at 32nd Street
  • Southbound California Avenue at Wardlow Road
  • Westbound 33rd Street at Lewis Avenue
  • Eastbound 33rd Street at Myrtle Avenue
