Another male adult occupant was found near the crash site with minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to a release issued by the LBPD. Officials say it is unclear how the second occupant was involved in the crash.

A clearer picture of the events leading to the traffic fatality emerged in the release issued by the LBPD, which explained that a preliminary investigation suggested the Toyota was traveling southbound on the 710 Freeway, approaching the Shoemaker Bridge/Terminal Island split when it lost control and traveled off the bridge for an unknown reason, landing on the 710 Freeway Transition to Terminal Island.

Officials say the Toyota may have made contact with the silver 2006 Ford Escape, California license plate 5MOV326, before its fatal landing.
