UPDATE | An 18-year-old man and documented gang member was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Long Beach resident over the weekend.
Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) detectives arrested Drake Nathaniel Loza of Long Beach yesterday near 10th Street and Orange Avenue for the shooting death of Jonathan Sandoval-Aleman.
The shooting happened at about 11:30PM on Saturday, August 12 near 7th Street and Orange Avenue.
Arriving officers found Sandoval-Aleman suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Loza is a documented gang member and is being held at Long Beach City Jail on $2 million bail.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) inmate search website, Loza was last arrested and booked at LASD’s Lakewood Station on January 3, 2017 for an undisclosed felony charge.

8/14/17 at 1:13PM | A Long Beach man was shot dead in North Alamitos Beach Saturday night, according to authorities.
Officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Orange Avenue at 11:30PM on Saturday, August 12 regarding a possible shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
When they arrived, police found the victim with gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel determined him to be dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 23-year-old Jonathan Sandoval-Aleman.
Homicide detectives are investigating the incident, and have not determined if it was gang related. A motive for the shooting has also yet to be determined, authorities said.
