21-year-old Long Beach resident Enrique Cervantes was arrested and now faces two felony charges after he allegedly fired at a taxi cab driver following an argument over fare cost, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

On February 3, Cervantes stepped inside a cab near 21st St. and Earl Avenue in Central Long Beach. Before even arriving at his destination, Cervantes began to argue about the cost of the trip to such an extent that it prompted the driver to stop the car about two blocks north of the pickup location.

Getting out of the car, Cervantes allegedly pulled out a gun and fired toward the driver before evacuating the area. The bullet grazed the driver—a wound which was treated at the scene—and the driver was released safely following the incident.

Cervantes, following identification by LBPD’s Robbery Detail, was arrested on February 20. He has been charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of attempted armed robbery, both of which hold weapons-related enhancements.
