Authorities Tuesday identified a man who was fatally shot in Long Beach by a suspect who remains at large.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, Long Beach police Lt. Tony Lopez said.

Gerardo Gonzalez, 39, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. His home town was not known.

“Officers gathered information indicating the victim and the suspect were involved in an altercation …,” according to a police statement, but no other details were released.
