Kellye Taylor, a 53-year-old teacher, was stabbed to death directly in front of her students in a park across from Huntington Academy, the school where she taught.

Taylor, the second eldest of five sisters, was sitting in Orizaba Park watching her students play when a man approached her at 1:30PM. The man stabbed her in the neck and then fled the scene.

Once Long Beach police were contacted and directed toward where the suspect was last seen, officers captured and arrested 50-year-old Steven Brown, the father of Taylor’s grandchildren. Though no specific cause has yet to be determined, there are speculations brewing that problems over Taylor’s custody of Brown’s children may have been a factor in the crime.

Brown is currently being held on $1M bail.
