A teenage boy was shot in the upper body early Friday morning in the Willmore area north of Downtown Long Beach, authorities said.

Gang detectives are investigating the shooting in the 600 block of W. Seventh Street, near Edison Elementary School.

Officers were dispatched to a local hospital at 1:45 a.m. Friday regarding a person with a gunshot wound. They later found the crime scene near Edison Elementary School, authorities said.

The victim’s injuries were non-life threatening and there is no suspect information at this time, Long Beach police officer Ben Hearst said.
